Jesmonite® and heat: the basics

Cast Jesmonite® (base + liquid) is tested to withstand high temperatures and won’t melt, so it’s well suited to candle holders, tealight dishes and warm tableware. That heat resistance is one of its biggest advantages over plastic or resin.

⚠️ The key rule: the heat resistance applies to the base products only – the base and liquid. It does not apply to sealers, which aren’t heat-tested. So for anything involving a flame, use an unsealed cast.

Making candle holders safely

  • Use an unsealed Jesmonite® cast – skip the sealer, since it isn’t heat-tested near a flame.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from anything flammable.

The mess-free alternative: candle sand

Want a real flame without pouring or melting wax? CandleRoxx candle sand turns any heat-resistant vessel – including your own cast Jesmonite® pot – into a candle in seconds:

  1. Cast a pot in Jesmonite® (or grab any heat-resistant jar).
  2. Fill it with candle sand and push a wick into the middle.
  3. Light it – top it up after burning and it looks brand new.

What about hot dishes and cookware?

Jesmonite® trivets and coasters happily take a warm mug, teapot or serving dish. For very hot cookware straight off the hob or out of the oven, use common sense: let extreme heat come down a little first, and use a generous, thick trivet. Sudden, intense temperature shocks are best avoided with any cast material.
