Jesmonite sealers protect your castings against moisture, stains and UV, and bring out the colour and texture. The gloss sealer gives a deeper, shiny finish; the satin sealer keeps the natural, matt look of the material. Both are water-based, non-toxic and easy to apply with a brush or sponge in two thin coats.
Jesmonite® Gloss Sealer is a pure acrylic coating compatible with all Jesmonite® composites, from AC100 to AC830. It’s a durable, flexible product designed with the inclusion of a specially formulated Gloss finish, exactly what many users have been asking for. This new product is easily applied by way of brush, roller, or spray and similarly can be diluted in a variety of formats to achieve variations in finish.
How to seal your cast
Two thin coats beat one thick one.
- Wait until the cast is fully cured, about 24 hours after demoulding; sand smooth and dust off.
- Apply a thin, even coat with a brush or sponge. Too thick? Dilute the sealer with up to 25% water.
- Repeat after drying: a second thin coat, a third if the piece will see water.
- Cure let the sealer dry fully before use.
Questions & answers
Is Jesmonite® waterproof without sealing?
No. Jesmonite® is porous and will absorb water, so it is not waterproof on its own. Seal it before it comes into regular contact with water. An acrylic sealer suits AC100, while a penetrating or Flexiguard sealer is made for the cement-based AC730 and AC84.
